There's not much to add about us as a family
that's not on our home webpage, Sheridan
Pack (although we haven't updated that website in a couple of years...).
As for cruising, we've never done anything
like this before. Brian is the sailor, having sailed with his grandfather
a few times between Florida and the Bahamas and participated in the Governor's
Cup with a friend a couple of times. Although familiar with powerboats, Maria just learned
to sail in the spring of 2005 on a 19 ft Flying Scot. But we both scuba
dive, feel comfortable on the water, and love adventure and traveling, so our
decision to go cruising fits in quite well... Our son, Nolan, just turned three in
December. He likes the boat and has enjoyed sailing on Flying Scots on the
Potomac River, but he honestly doesn't know what to expect. We've been
telling him for quite some time that we're going 'to the Bahamas' on our boat,
but as far as he's concerned, that's just down the Potomac River. When we moved
aboard our boat in Deltaville while it was still on the hard, he woke up the
next morning, looked out the porthole, and asked, "Where's the
Bahamas?" Our little black dog, Mimi, loves the water and running in
the sand (and fared quite well when we lived in Egypt several years ago), so she
should enjoy life in the tropics. Having said that, she's still adjusting
to life aboard a boat.
As mentioned on our home page, this trip has
been in the making since mid-2004. However, it was kept a
secret because it is something that is very dear to us. We weren't ready
to share it until concrete plans were laid, our boat already
purchased, and Brian's sabbatical all set. To those family members and
friends who have stood beside us and celebrated this experience of a lifetime
with us, your support has meant so much. Thank you...!
