Deltaville
We're spending the last week before our departure in
Deltaville on the hard, getting some final things tended to and settling in
onboard. Our third night on Belisana, the wind howled all night and
kept us awake (well, Mimi and Nolan slept like a rock). The conclusion we
reached in the wee hours before falling asleep was that we better get used to
the wind whistling through the rigging, as we are headed towards the Caribbean
and the trade winds.
Connie and Karin had loaned us their minivan for a week to
pack and drive down to Deltaville. They came down (three hours one
way) and retrieved it, bringing ice cream cake to celebrate Brian's birthday
with us.
Leaving our house, packed up and ready to go in Karin's
minivan. |
Feeling right at home on Belisana...
Brian and Nolan having ice cream cake in the cockpit with
Karin and Connie, with Mimi hoping for handouts! Notice all the gear to be
stowed? And our nice new enclosure? |
The folks at Deltaville
Boatyard and Deltaville Marina have been very kind, including loaning us a
vehicle for free to run errands. |

Belisana finally had her name and
new hailing port painted by Kaptain Krunch

Final preparations, including adding
netting to the new lifelines. |
The amount of stuff we brought was
overwhelming, to say the least! Below is a picture of the v-berth, several
days into unpacking. See all those empty blue boxes? Believe it or
not, everything is getting stowed very efficiently. The bins and our
winter clothes will be left with Maria's folks when we pass through
Savannah. As you can tell from the books, the v-berth will be Nolan's play
area when we are not having guests in there.

Having some fun and getting some R&R
after working extremely hard for several days trying to get settled in...
LAUNCHING! |
With all necessary work on the hard completed, it was time to
finally get Belisana back in the water. |
Brian and Nolan look on as the travel lift picks her up... |
Yes, she's off the ground!
Almost there... |
...almost... |
There... back home in the water. |
And, Nolan makes friends with Anne from Annapolis Yacht
Sales (we met Anne and Jonathan over the summer, and they've stopped by a couple
of times to say 'hello' and invite us to dinner - nice folks).

DINNER
As we've heard so many times, the best thing about
cruising is the people. Marion said it again tonight at dinner...This
again proved true as Anne and Jonathan hosted a wonderful dinner for our
family (including Mimi) and Marion and John.
Nolan started a trend with ice cream bowl...
...Anne followed suit...
Then John joined in, and Marion with her wine glass.
Nolan's in love
The whole group, sans Jonathan the photographer -
thanks for a wonderful evening!
